Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the production of shape memory molded articles with a wide temperature range of applications, and their use in the production of injection molded articles and extruded articles. The invention provides an improved process for the production of shape memory molded articles based on a thermoplasticity processing polyurethane with phase transformation range of about 25-120 DEG C. and shore A hardness difference of more than 15 measured under phase transformation temperature and above phase transformation temperature, the polyurethane is thermal stability above about 120 DEG C. The improved parts is included follow multi-phase reactions: a) one or more polylol of linear hydroxyl-terminated with about 2000-4000 g/mol molecular weight and 2 functionality reacts with a first part organic diisocyanate with about 1.1:1-1.9:1 mol ratio of NCO:OH for forming preformed polymer of isocyanate-terminated; b) the preformed polymer prepared by phase a) is mixed with residual a second part organic diisocyanate, c) the mixer prepared by phase b) reacts with one or more diol chain extender with about 60-350 g/mol molecular weight for forming thermoplastic polyurethane, wherein, mol ratio of NCO:ON is adjusted to about 0.9:1-1.1:1 after phase c), wherein, mol ratio of diol chain extender to polylol about 3:1-1:2.
